2012: The Year of the Movie
Since it’s that time of the year and everybody else is doing it, I thought I’d chime in with an end-of-the-year list of my own. While reading a couple of ‘Top Ten Movies of 2012’ lists over on Badass Digest the other day, it dawned on me that I had seen a lot of movies this year. That lead to the thought that I should try to come up with a list of movies I had seen in 2012. After spending several hours poring over my GetGlue check-ins, foursquare check-ins, Netflix history, and iTunes rental history, I believe I have a pretty complete list.
But a couple of random notes and stats first:Â
- I did not count made-for-TV movies or movies that I only partially watched on TV
- I saw 35 movies at the theater (34 at Alamo Drafthouse, one at Violet Crown Cinema)
- I watched 46 movies at home (nine via Netflix, nine via iTunes rental, one via Amazon Prime Instant Video, six on DVD, and 21 via regular and premium cable)
- I watched two (rented) movies on a plane (X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes)
- I attended three movie marathons at Alamo Drafthouse (The Avengers marathon, The Dark Knight marathon, and The Lord of the Rings marathon)
- I saw six movies twice, but only counted them once for this list (Moneyball, Iron Man 2, Hanna, The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight Rises, and Project X)
- I saw one movie in 35mm (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
- I saw one movie in 70mm (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)
- I saw one movie in 3D (Frankenweenie)
- I saw one IMAX movie (The Dark Knight Rises)
- I saw one movie in the theater twice (The Dark Knight Rises)
- I attended a movie alone for the first time in my life (The Wrath of the Titans)
- I watched two classics, Planet of the Apes (at home) and Cool Hand Luke (at Alamo Drafthouse)
- I watched slightly less than 30 minutes of Everyman’s War; it was so horrible and the suffering was so bad, I thought it deserved inclusion on this list
So without further adieu, here, in chronological order, is my list of movies I watched in 2012:
